One of Shakespeare's warmest, wittiest comedies is heading back to the wooden O. Shakespeare's Globe has announced the full cast and creative team for As You Like It, running in the open-air Globe Theatre from 14 August to 25 October 2026. It is co-directed by the Globe's Associate Artistic Director Sean Holmes and Charlie Josephine, who also takes on the role of Orlando. At tickadoo, here is everything you need to know, and how to grab one of the best-value tickets in London.

Leading the company is Lola Shalam as Rosalind, Shakespeare's sharpest, most beguiling heroine, with Charlie Josephine as Orlando and Gracie Oddie-James as Celia. Jonnie Broadbent plays the clown Touchstone and Katherine Pearce takes the great melancholic role of Jaques, who delivers the famous "All the world's a stage" speech.

They are joined by Colm Gormley as Duke Senior, Duke Frederick and Corin, Thomas Josling as Oliver, Molly Madigan as Phoebe, Phoebe Naughton as Audrey, Busa Wickramasuriya as Silvius, Peter Bourke as Adam and Sir Oliver Martext, Jurell Carter as Charles and William, Jordan Rhys as Jaques de Boys, and Inez Solomon-Gardner completing the ensemble. As with any run, casting can change, so it is worth checking the latest line-up when you book.

What is As You Like It about?

It is Shakespeare's great escape to the countryside. Rosalind, banished from her uncle's court, flees into the Forest of Arden disguised as a young man named Ganymede, accompanied by her cousin Celia and the jester Touchstone. In the forest she runs into Orlando, the man she has fallen for, and, safe behind her disguise, sets about testing and teaching him how to love. Add a tangle of mismatched couples, a philosophical exile or two and some of the loveliest verse Shakespeare ever wrote, and you have a comedy about love, freedom and the way a change of scene can transform you. The co-directors call it "a wild play, full of unexpected impossible love that fuels radical transformation."

The creative team

Sean Holmes (Romeo and Juliet and Pinocchio at the Globe; Cowbois for the RSC and Royal Court) and Charlie Josephine (Cowbois) co-direct, reuniting after their acclaimed work together. The production has music from composer and musical director Katie Richardson, design by Paul Wills, movement direction by Tamsin Hurtado Clarke, and fight and intimacy direction by Bethan Clark, with text work by Simon Trinder and voice by Gary Horner. It is a team built for the Globe's playful, music-filled, audience-close style.

Seeing it at Shakespeare's Globe

Part of the fun is the venue itself. The Globe is a faithful reconstruction of the open-air playhouse Shakespeare wrote for, on London's Bankside, and it is one of the most atmospheric places in the world to see his work. Performances go ahead whatever the British weather, and the summer-into-autumn run makes this a perfect warm-evening night out. Best of all, it is genuinely affordable: standing tickets in the yard as a "groundling," right at the edge of the stage, are some of the best-value theatre tickets in London.
