Florals for spring? Groundbreaking. A last chance to see one of the West End's most talked-about performances? Rather more urgent. Vanessa Williams will play her final performance as the fearsome editor-in-chief Miranda Priestly in The Devil Wears Prada the Musical on Saturday 19 September 2026, and her right-hand man Matt Henry follows soon after. If you have been meaning to see them at the Dominion Theatre, the clock is now genuinely ticking. Here is what is changing, and how to catch them before they walk out that Dior.

What is changing, and when

Here are the dates that matter. Vanessa Williams, known to millions from Ugly Betty and Desperate Housewives, gives her final performance as Miranda Priestly on Saturday 19 September 2026. From Monday 21 September, the role of Miranda will be played by Debbie Kurup through to Saturday 17 October 2026, with a longer-term successor to be announced. Matt Henry MBE, the Olivier Award winner who has been playing Runway's creative fashion director Nigel, takes his final bow on Saturday 17 October 2026.

In other words, if you want to see Williams's Miranda, you have until 19 September, and if it is Matt Henry's Nigel you are after, you have until 17 October. The show itself continues at the Dominion Theatre until 6 February 2027, so The Devil Wears Prada is not going anywhere. These two particular performances, however, are.

Why Vanessa Williams's Miranda is worth the rush

Miranda Priestly is one of the great modern screen villains, and it takes a particular kind of star presence to make her live on stage without simply doing an impression of the film. Vanessa Williams brings exactly that: the glacial calm, the withering one-liners, and a surprising flicker of humanity underneath the couture. Audiences on tickadoo have responded in kind, with The Devil Wears Prada holding a rating of 4.8 out of 5 from more than 2,400 reviews, one of the strongest of any current West End musical. Catching the performance that helped earn those reviews, before it changes hands, is the whole point of booking now.

If you need catching up, the credentials here are serious. The score is by Elton John, with lyrics by Shaina Taub and Mark Sonnenblick and a book by Kate Wetherhead, and it is directed and choreographed by Jerry Mitchell, the man behind Kinky Boots and Legally Blonde. It is based on Lauren Weisberger's best-selling 2003 novel and the 2006 film that grossed 326 million dollars worldwide, and it arrived at the Dominion in December 2024 after a run at Theatre Royal Plymouth.

Since opening it has become the fastest-selling show in the Dominion Theatre's history, and its original cast recording, which includes two previously unheard Elton John demos, landed at number one on the compilations chart. It is, in short, a big, glossy, genuinely funny night out, and the timing could hardly be better with the film's long-awaited sequel having arrived in cinemas earlier this year.

Half the fun is the look of the thing. With set design by Tim Hatley and a parade of showstopping outfits from costume designer Gregg Barnes, the production leans fully into the fashion-world fantasy, and the runway sequences are a spectacle in their own right. It is produced by four-time Tony Award winner Kevin McCollum, alongside David Furnish and Jamie Wilson, a team with serious musical-theatre pedigree, which shows in the polish on stage.

The story, for the uninitiated

Fresh out of college, aspiring journalist Andy Sachs lands a job that "a million girls would kill for" as assistant to Miranda Priestly, the all-powerful editor of Runway magazine. Sacrificing her personal life to meet Miranda's impossible demands, Andy finds herself seduced by the glamorous world she once looked down on, and has to decide how much of herself she is willing to trade to get ahead. Alongside Williams and Henry, the current company includes Stevie Doc as Andy, Taila Halford as the fashion-forward first assistant Emily, and Keelan McAuley as Andy's boyfriend Nate. As with any long run, casting can change, so it is always worth checking the latest line-up when you book.
