About Giotto Bell Tower, Florence Cathedral and Museum: Entry Ticket

This entry ticket covers access to five of the most significant monuments on the Piazza del Duomo in Florence: Giotto's Bell Tower, the Florence Cathedral (Santa Maria del Fiore), the Baptistery of San Giovanni, the Opera del Duomo Museum, and the underground church of Santa Reparata. Together, these sites form the historic religious and civic heart of the city, built and expanded between the 11th and 15th centuries. The Bell Tower itself, begun by Giotto di Bondone in 1334 and completed by Francesco Talenti in 1359, stands at approximately 85 metres and is one of the finest examples of Italian Gothic architecture in Florence.

The Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore was consecrated in 1436 and remains one of the largest churches in the world by interior volume. Entry here does not include access to Brunelleschi's Dome, which requires a separate ticket.

What to expect

Visitors climb 414 steps to the top of the Bell Tower, passing three external terraces with progressively wider views over the city's rooftops, the Arno valley, and the surrounding hills. There is no lift, and the staircase is narrow in sections. The ticket also includes a digital audio guide for the Cathedral interior, which covers the nave, the frescoed interior of the dome's drum, and the mosaic floor. The Opera del Duomo Museum houses original sculptural works removed from the exterior of the monuments, including Ghiberti's Gates of Paradise panels and Donatello's cantoria. Entry to Santa Reparata gives access to the archaeological remains of the earlier church beneath the Cathedral floor.

The Florence Cathedral complex and getting there

All five monuments are located on or immediately adjacent to the Piazza del Duomo, in the historic centre of Florence. The nearest major landmark is the Baptistery, directly opposite the Cathedral's west facade. The piazza is roughly a ten-minute walk from Santa Maria Novella railway station and is served by several bus lines along Via dei Cerretani. For a broader look at what the city offers, the Florence Duomo complex sits within a wider area of galleries, palaces, and historic streets worth planning around.
