Rome Ciampino Airport serves as one of the Italian capital's two main commercial airports, handling a significant share of the low-cost carrier traffic that connects Rome to destinations across Europe and beyond. Situated roughly 15 kilometres south-east of the city centre, it occupies a site with a long aeronautical history, having originally functioned as a military airfield and later becoming one of the earliest commercial aviation hubs in Italy. The airport takes its name from the municipality of Ciampino, in the Castelli Romani area of the Metropolitan City of Rome.

For travellers arriving at or departing from Ciampino, ground transfers into central Rome are a practical consideration. The airport is not directly served by the main urban rail network, making road-based connections the standard option. A scheduled bus service operated by SIT runs between Ciampino Airport and Rome Termini Station, the city's principal railway hub, offering a straightforward link to the wider public transport network and to accommodation across the capital.
