Sobre aquest lloc

The Acropolis Museum stands at the foot of the Sacred Rock in Athens, purpose-built to house the surviving sculptures, artefacts, and architectural fragments recovered from the Acropolis hill and its sanctuaries. Designed by Swiss architect Bernard Tschumi and opened in 2009, the building is itself a statement: its glass floors reveal ancient Athenian remains excavated beneath the foundations, while its top-floor Parthenon Gallery is oriented to align precisely with the temple visible on the hill above. Natural light floods the gallery, allowing visitors to study the Parthenon frieze, metopes, and pediment sculptures in conditions that approximate their original setting.

The museum holds some of the most significant works of classical Greek art in existence, including the Caryatids from the Erechtheion porch and the collection of Archaic korai figures. Visitors can explore the permanent collection through a guided tour led by a specialist, or move at their own pace using a self-guided audio tour that provides context for the key works across each floor.
