O tomto místě

The Galicia Jewish Museum, known in Polish as Żydowskie Muzeum Galicja, stands in the Kazimierz district of Kraków, the city's historic Jewish quarter. Founded by British photographer Chris Schwartz and historian Jonathan Webber, the museum opened in 2004 and is dedicated to commemorating the victims of the Holocaust while celebrating the rich culture and history of Polish Jews. Its permanent exhibition, Traces of Memory, presents a landmark series of photographs by Schwartz documenting Jewish heritage sites across the former Galicia region, reframing how that history is seen and remembered.

The museum occupies a former Jewish factory building, giving the space an architectural resonance that suits its purpose. Beyond the permanent collection, it hosts temporary exhibitions, educational programmes, and cultural events that draw visitors from across the world. Entrance tickets are available for the permanent Traces of Memory exhibition, offering a thoughtful and carefully curated introduction to a history that shaped this part of Central Europe profoundly.
