Cathedral of the Image

Cathedral of the Image is an immersive digital art venue in Florence, occupying a former industrial space that has been transformed into a vast projection environment. Floor-to-ceiling surfaces become living canvases, surrounding visitors with large-scale animated imagery and spatial sound that together create an enveloping sensory experience quite unlike a conventional gallery visit.

Currently filling the space is Cathedral of the Image: Frida Kahlo, an exhibition dedicated to the life and work of the Mexican painter. Her self-portraits, symbolic still lifes, and intensely personal imagery are rendered across the walls, floors, and columns of the venue, drawing on her full body of work to explore the emotional and biographical currents that shaped her art. Florence, a city long associated with the history of painting and visual culture, provides a fitting backdrop for an exhibition that asks audiences to encounter a canonical modern artist in an entirely new way.
