Aquarium Barcelona

The Aquarium Barcelona sits at the edge of Port Vell, the old harbour that stretches along the city's waterfront below the Barceloneta neighbourhood. It is one of the largest aquariums in Europe dedicated to Mediterranean marine life, housing more than 35 tanks and a collection of roughly 11,000 animals representing some 450 species. The centrepiece is an 80-metre transparent tunnel that passes through an enormous oceanarium tank, placing visitors directly among sharks, rays, and schools of open-water fish.

Beyond the oceanarium, the building presents dedicated zones for coral ecosystems, tropical species, and the particular habitats found across the Mediterranean basin. Skip-the-line tickets are available, allowing visitors to move directly to the entrance and spend more time exploring the galleries rather than queuing at the port. The aquarium draws families, school groups, and anyone with an interest in marine biology, and its position within Port Vell makes it straightforward to reach on foot from the city centre or by metro.
