Acerca de este lugar

The National Archaeological Museum in Athens holds one of the most significant collections of ancient Greek artefacts in the world. Its galleries trace the full arc of Greek civilisation, from Neolithic figurines and Cycladic marble idols through to the gold funeral masks of Mycenae, the bronzes recovered from the sea off Antikythera, and the painted pottery of the classical period. The building itself, a neoclassical structure in the Exarcheia district, was purpose-built to house the growing national collection as Greece consolidated its independent identity in the nineteenth century.

Visitors today can explore the permanent galleries with an audio guide that provides context at their own pace, or join a private tour led by a licensed expert guide for a more focused reading of the collection. The Antikythera Mechanism, the bronze statue of Poseidon poised mid-throw, and the Mask of Agamemnon are among the objects that consistently draw scholars and general visitors alike to these rooms.
