Sobre el recinto

Acerca de este lugar

Artis Amsterdam Royal Zoo is one of the oldest zoological gardens in Europe, established in 1838 on the eastern edge of Amsterdam's city centre. The zoo takes its name from the Latin phrase "Natura Artis Magistra", meaning nature is the teacher of art, a motto that has guided its purpose for nearly two centuries. Spread across a landscaped park in the Plantage neighbourhood, Artis is home to thousands of animals representing hundreds of species, alongside historic nineteenth-century buildings, an aquarium, a planetarium, and extensive botanical gardens.

Uniquely, Artis is also connected to Micropia, the world's first museum dedicated entirely to microorganisms, which opened on the zoo grounds in 2014. Together, the two attractions offer a journey from the microscopic to the magnificent. Visitors can explore the zoo grounds with a standard entry ticket or combine their visit with skip-the-line access to both Artis and Micropia, making the most of this remarkable site in the Plantage district.
