Museum of Modern Art

The Museum of Modern Art occupies a landmark complex on West 53rd Street in Midtown Manhattan, a few blocks from Central Park. Since its founding in 1929, MoMA has grown into one of the world's foremost collections of modern and contemporary art, holding works by Picasso, Matisse, Warhol, Pollock, and Frida Kahlo among its permanent galleries. The building was substantially expanded and redesigned by architect Yoshio Taniguchi, reopening in 2004 with a greatly enlarged footprint and the serene sculpture garden that has become one of the most recognisable outdoor spaces in New York.

The collection spans painting, sculpture, photography, film, design, and architecture, tracing the development of modern art from the late nineteenth century to the present day. MoMA's film programme, one of the most respected in the United States, screens rare and restored prints throughout the year. Visitors can move between the permanent collection and a rotating series of temporary exhibitions that draw on loans from institutions and private collections worldwide.
