The San Francisco: Mission District Walking Tour is a narrated, small-group walking tour of one of the city's most historically layered neighbourhoods, running three and a half hours from a meeting point at 3321 16th Street. The tour opens at Mission San Francisco de Asis, commonly known as Mission Dolores, the oldest surviving structure in San Francisco, founded in 1776. Inside, visitors see original religious art and learn about the building's role through the Spanish colonial period and the 1906 earthquake. That earthquake is also the story behind the Golden Fire Hydrant at Church Street and 20th, which held pressure when others failed and helped spare the Mission from the fires that followed.
From there the route moves through surrounding streets, taking in the Women's Building with its large exterior murals, the Mission Community Pool, and the political and human rights artwork lining Balmy Alley. Father Hidalgo's statue and the Victorian homes on Lexington and San Carlos Streets add further context to the neighbourhood's layered identity. Food tastings are included, with a stop at Café de Olla for Oaxacan-style dishes such as quesadillas and tamales, and a second stop on 24th Street for tacos, pastry, or coffee. Groups are capped at twelve people. Tickets cover the guided narration, entrance to Mission Dolores, all food tastings, and photo stops throughout the route. Gratuities and hotel transfers are not included.
