This is an overnight wilderness cruise through Doubtful Sound in Fiordland National Park. The journey begins with a cruise across Lake Manapouri, continues by coach over Wilmot Pass through ancient rainforest, and then boards a traditional vessel at Deep Cove for an overnight stay on the water.
A knowledgeable nature guide accompanies the cruise and shares insights about the wildlife of the fiord, including bottlenose dolphins, fur seals, and rare yellow-eyed penguins. Birdlife in the rainforest sections of the journey includes bellbirds and tui.
The experience includes the Lake Manapouri cruise, a coach transfer over Wilmot Pass, and overnight accommodation aboard the vessel. A buffet dinner made from local ingredients and a breakfast the following morning are also included, along with access to observation lounges, viewing decks, kayaking, tender boat rides, and stargazing on the upper deck.
The experience departs from Te Anau, a town on the edge of Fiordland National Park on the South Island of New Zealand. From there, the itinerary takes you to Lake Manapouri and onward to Doubtful Sound as part of the guided journey.
During the overnight stay, guests can kayak through tranquil coves, take a tender boat ride along the shoreline, and, depending on weather conditions, swim in the waters of the fiord. Evening stargazing from the upper deck is also part of the experience.
