London Zoo

London Zoo occupies a sprawling site in Regent's Park, making it one of the most distinctive wildlife attractions in the capital. Opened in 1828, it is the world's oldest scientific zoo and remains home to the Zoological Society of London, which has driven animal conservation and research for nearly two centuries. The zoo's Victorian-era architecture sits alongside modern enclosures designed to reflect the natural habitats of its residents, from the Snowdon Aviary, designed by Lord Snowdon and Cedric Price in the 1960s, to the more recent Land of the Lions, which recreates the Gir Forest landscape of western India.

Today, visitors can explore the zoo through a general entry ticket, which opens up the full breadth of the site across its many animal houses, outdoor paddocks, and keeper-led experiences. The collection spans mammals, reptiles, birds, fish, and invertebrates, with a particular emphasis on species that benefit from the ZSL's global conservation programmes.
