Palau Dalmases

Palau Dalmases is a baroque palace in the El Born district of Barcelona, its ornate courtyard and stone staircase dating to the seventeenth century when it served as the seat of the Acadèmia dels Desconfiats, one of Catalonia's earliest learned societies. The building's carved reliefs, which depict the mythological voyage of Neptune, make it one of the finest surviving examples of Catalan baroque civil architecture in the city.

Today the palace operates as an intimate venue where the setting itself becomes part of the performance. Flamenco shows take place within the historic interior, placing the art form's footwork, song, and guitar against walls that have witnessed centuries of Barcelonan cultural life. The combination of a seventeenth-century palace and live flamenco makes Palau Dalmases one of the more distinctive performance spaces in the city.
