À propos du lieu

À propos de ce lieu

The Geology and Mineralogy Gallery forms part of the Muséum National d'Histoire Naturelle, the great natural history institution that has occupied the Jardin des Plantes in Paris since the seventeenth century. The gallery houses one of the most significant mineral and geological collections in Europe, bringing together thousands of specimens that trace the formation of the Earth, from ancient rocks and fossils to extraordinary crystalline structures and precious stones. Many of the pieces date back to the royal collections assembled before the French Revolution, giving the displays a depth of scientific and historical heritage that few comparable institutions can match.

The building itself is a fine example of nineteenth-century museum architecture, and its interior retains much of the grandeur associated with that era of ambitious natural science. Visitors exploring the gallery today can examine specimens drawn from every corner of the globe, arranged to illustrate the geological processes that have shaped continents and oceans over billions of years. Entry tickets grant access to this permanent collection within the wider Jardin des Plantes site.
