À propos du lieu

À propos de ce lieu

The Scuola Grande dei Carmini stands in the Dorsoduro sestiere of Venice, one of the six great confraternities that shaped the cultural and civic life of the Serenissima for centuries. The building served as the headquarters of the Carmelite confraternity, a lay brotherhood devoted to charitable works and religious devotion, and its interior reflects the wealth and ambition that these institutions commanded at the height of the Venetian Republic.

The upper hall, known as the Sala dell'Albergo, contains the celebrated ceiling paintings by Giambattista Tiepolo, completed in the 1740s and considered among his finest works in Venice. The central canvas depicts the Virgin of Mount Carmel presenting the scapular to the Blessed Simon Stock, surrounded by figures rendered with the luminous colour and sweeping movement that define Tiepolo's mature style. Visitors today can purchase an entry ticket to explore the decorated halls, the carved woodwork, and the collection of paintings that together make the Scuola one of the most rewarding interiors in the city.
