Your experience Enjoy a 45-minute performance at Vienna’s Spanish Riding School that showcases the highlights of classical horsemanship. Getting started Arrive at the main entrance of the Winter Ri
The Spanish Riding School Performance Show is a 45-minute circus and equestrian performance in Vienna, presenting classical horsemanship in one of Europe's oldest and most formally preserved riding traditions. The school was founded in 1572 and is housed in the Imperial Winter Riding Hall, completed in 1735 to a design by Josef Emanuel Fischer von Erlach. The hall itself is a Baroque interior of considerable architectural note, with white-stuccoed galleries and a portrait of Emperor Charles VI presiding over the arena. Among the Vienna attractions that draw visitors specifically for their historical continuity, this performance stands apart for staging movements that have remained largely unchanged for centuries.
The 45-minute programme features the Lipizzan stallions performing the movements of classical dressage, including the highly trained airs above the ground such as the levade and capriole, alongside precision ground-level figures performed to live or recorded classical music. Riders wear traditional brown tailcoats and bicorne hats, maintaining the ceremonial dress of the Imperial Court. Tickets are available for seated gallery positions and standing areas, with the programme running on selected dates throughout the year. Entry covers the full 45-minute show and access to the riding hall for the duration of the performance.
