The Lisbon Guided Fado Tour is a three-hour walking tour through the Mouraria and Alfama neighbourhoods, the historic heartland of fado in Lisbon. Fado, Portugal's most distinctive musical tradition, has been sung in these narrow streets and taverns for well over a century, and both districts retain the dense, layered character that shaped the genre. The tour departs from in front of the Capela de Nossa Senhora da Saúde and moves through key locations where fado musicians and singers have performed across generations, covering the alleys, squares, and local houses that give the music its context.
Along the route, guests hear live fado performances in the streets and squares rather than on a formal stage, which places the music directly in the environment it grew from. The tour closes at a popular fado house in Alfama with a final live performance accompanied by traditional Portuguese appetizers, Ginjinha, and wine. Tickets are not suitable for wheelchair users, and the cancellation policy allows changes before the scheduled timeslot. For other things to do in Lisbon Sintra, the city hub covers a broad range of experiences across both cities.
