About Allegra

Allegra is a new comedy with music at the Harold Pinter Theatre in London, written by Peter Quilter, the Olivier and Tony Award nominated playwright behind End of the Rainbow and Glorious!. The production is directed and choreographed by Stephen Mear, a three-time Olivier Award winner whose credits include Sunset Boulevard, Mary Poppins, and Hello, Dolly!. Dame Maureen Lipman takes the title role, marking her first UK tour in 20 years.

The story follows Allegra, a woman with an irresistible compulsion to sing, whether at home, in the street, or in local shops and cafés. Her devoted brother Ronen, played by John Middleton of Emmerdale, and her carer Anna, played by Elizabeth Bower of Midsomer Murders, work to keep life on an even keel, while the production asks how you protect someone you love without diminishing what makes them who they are. Full musical numbers performed by the cast run throughout.

What to expect

Audiences follow Allegra through scenes in which her inner musical world collides with everyday life, sometimes with the orchestra playing only in her imagination and sometimes spilling into the real world around her. The cast delivers full musical numbers alongside a comic and emotional narrative. Tickets are available across a range of seating tiers at the Harold Pinter Theatre, with performances running as part of the current London season. Check the schedule when booking to confirm your preferred date.
