Tentang tempat

Mengenai tempat ini

Huis Willet-Holthuysen is a canal house museum on the Herengracht in Amsterdam, one of the finest surviving examples of a wealthy merchant's residence from the Dutch Golden Age. The house takes its name from its last private owner, Louisa Willet-Holthuysen, who bequeathed the property and its contents to the city of Amsterdam in 1895. It has since been managed as a museum, preserving the original room layouts, period furniture, silverware, glassware, and decorative arts that reflect the tastes of Amsterdam's elite across the seventeenth, eighteenth, and nineteenth centuries.

Visitors move through the formal reception rooms, the kitchen quarters, and the French-style garden at the rear, gaining a rare sense of how a prosperous Amsterdam family actually lived. The current offer combines an entry ticket with an audio guide, which provides context for the house's architecture, its collections, and the lives of the families who shaped it. Huis Willet-Holthuysen sits within the Grachtengordel, the UNESCO-listed canal ring that defines the historic centre of Amsterdam.
