Sovereign Hill: Winter Wonderlights is a seasonal evening and daytime experience at the Sovereign Hill open-air museum in Ballarat, roughly 110 kilometres north-west of Melbourne. The site reconstructs a mid-19th century gold rush township, and during the Winter Wonderlights season the heritage streetscapes are transformed after dark with large-scale projections, illuminated pathways, and fire pits positioned throughout the grounds. During daylight hours, entry covers access to the reconstructed shops, hotels, and workplaces of the 1850s goldfields, with staff in period attire carrying out trades and demonstrations. Visitors can pan for gold in the creek, descend into the Red Hill Mine on an included underground tour, and move freely through the open-air precinct. Once evening falls, the Winter Wonderlights programme begins, with music and activities suited to all ages alongside the illuminated streets and fire pits.
