A French-language theatrical guided tour through the historic covered passages of Paris, built around an unsolved 1870 murder mystery.
This guided theatrical tour takes visitors through the covered passages of Paris, led by actor-guides performing an original mystery scenario set in the 19th-century arcades. The story follows Jean-Jacques de la Tour, a fictional tour guide investigating the unsolved 1870 murder of Nathaniel de Cantaussel in the Passage Jouffroy. Along the route, participants encounter a cast of period characters including the notorious Mademoiselle Éclaircie, the rogue Blaise, and a mysterious actress from the Théâtre des Variétés. The passages themselves, built largely between 1800 and 1850, are among the earliest examples of covered shopping galleries in Europe, lined with mosaic floors, glass rooftops, and independent boutiques. The tour is conducted entirely in French.
Throughout the walk, actor-guides encourage audience participation, weaving historical facts about the neighbourhood into the dramatic narrative. Visitors move between several of the Paris covered passages, taking in architectural details and local history as the plot unfolds. Tickets cover participation in the full theatrical route, including all character encounters and guided commentary. The experience is suited to adults and older children comfortable following a French-language performance. Check the booking page for available departure times and group size limits.
The tour meets at 19 Place de la Bourse, so aim to arrive a few minutes early to find the group and be ready to set off on time. The experience takes place across several of the covered passages, so wear comfortable shoes suited to walking on uneven historic flooring.
Free cancellation up to 24 hours before the start time.
