O miejscu

O tym miejscu

The Old Synagogue in Kraków's Kazimierz district is the oldest surviving Jewish house of worship in Poland, its late-Gothic and Renaissance architecture bearing witness to centuries of Jewish life in the city. Heavily damaged during the Second World War and subsequently restored, the building now operates as a branch of the Historical Museum of the City of Kraków, housing a permanent collection devoted to the history and traditions of Kraków's Jewish community.

The synagogue sits at the centre of Kazimierz, the historic quarter that once formed the heart of Jewish Kraków, and is a natural starting point for understanding the neighbourhood's layered past. Guided tours currently available through this venue combine a visit to Kazimierz with the nearby Schindler's Factory museum, tracing the district's history from its medieval origins through to the devastating events of the German occupation and the stories of those who lived through them.
