Te Anau Glowworm Caves Guided Tour at Te Anau Glowworm Caves
Choose your experience
The Te Anau Glowworm Caves Guided Tour takes visitors into a limestone cave system beneath the shores of Lake Te Anau in Fiordland, New Zealand. The caves were rediscovered in 1948 and contain active glowworm grottos, underground streams, and whirlpools carved over millions of years. Te Anau is one of the main gateways to Fiordland National Park and its surrounding attractions.
The guided tour includes a short boat crossing on Lake Te Anau, a walk through illuminated cave passages, and a silent boat ride through the glowworm grotto, where the bioluminescent larvae of Arachnocampa luminosa cover the cave ceiling. Tickets cover the return boat transfer, guide commentary, and entry to the cave system. Tours run in small groups and depart multiple times daily from the Te Anau lakefront.
