Templo Mayor Museum: Entry Ticket + Guided Tour

The Templo Mayor Museum is an archaeological site and museum in the historic centre of Mexico City, built over the excavated remains of the great Aztec temple that once stood at the heart of Tenochtitlan, the Mexica capital. The temple complex was uncovered in 1978 after workers discovered a large carved stone disc depicting the goddess Coyolxauhqui, prompting a major excavation that continues to this day. The site sits at Seminario 8, within walking distance of the Zocalo, and ranks among the most significant pre-Columbian archaeological finds in Mexico City.

This two-hour guided tour pairs entry to the open-air ruins with access to the adjoining museum, which holds over 7,000 objects recovered from the site, including stone sculptures, ceramic figures, ritual offerings, and the original Coyolxauhqui Stone. A live guide leads the visit, explaining the dual-pyramid structure dedicated to Huitzilopochtli and Tlaloc, the significance of the seven construction phases identified on site, and the broader role the temple played in Aztec religious life.
