Pont Marie

Pont Marie is one of Paris's oldest surviving bridges, spanning the Seine between the Île Saint-Louis and the Right Bank in the 4th arrondissement. Completed in the seventeenth century under the direction of Christophe Marie, the bridge was originally lined with houses and shops, a common feature of Parisian bridges of that era. A catastrophic flood in 1658 swept away much of the original structure, and the bridge was subsequently rebuilt in its current form, stripped of its buildings but retaining its graceful stone arches. It has since become one of the most photographed crossings in the city, offering unobstructed views towards the Île Saint-Louis and the spires of the surrounding skyline.

Today, Pont Marie serves as a starting point for the Notre-Dame Secret Food Tour, a guided experience that takes visitors through the historic streets and markets of the surrounding neighbourhood. The tour explores the culinary traditions of central Paris, weaving through the lanes close to the cathedral and the river.
