About the venue

About this venue

The Basilica of Santa Croce stands on the eastern edge of Florence's historic centre, its white, green, and pink marble facade facing a broad piazza that has served as a gathering place for the city for centuries. Designed in the Gothic style and attributed to Arnolfo di Cambio, the basilica is the largest Franciscan church in the world and holds a singular place in Italian cultural life. Its interior contains the tombs of Michelangelo, Galileo Galilei, Niccolò Machiavelli, and Gioachino Rossini, making it a pantheon of Italian genius as much as a place of worship. Giotto's frescoes survive in the Bardi and Peruzzi chapels, offering some of the most important examples of early Renaissance painting still visible in their original setting.

The complex extends beyond the church itself to include a museum and the Pazzi Chapel, designed by Filippo Brunelleschi and considered one of the finest examples of early Renaissance architecture in Florence. Skip-the-line tickets to the Santa Croce Basilica Complex allow visitors to move directly into this layered site without queuing at the entrance.
