The castle took its current Moorish form during the 8th and 9th centuries under Arab rule, and was later expanded by Castilian kings. It gained a new wave of attention as a filming location for Game of Thrones, standing in as Highgarden in the series. Entry is self-guided, and visitors receive a map at the gate to navigate the towers, battlements, and interior courtyards at their own pace.
